Murphy, Liu to topline indie pic
By Michael Fleming, Chris Gardner Cillian Murphy and Lucy Liu will team for the indie pic "Watching the Detectives" for Peace Arch Entertainment and Plum Pictures. Shooting starts Monday in New York City.
Romantic comedy is about a film noir buff whose world is turned upside down when a real-life femme fatale provides far more adventure than he ever experienced. Paul Soter is directing from his own script. Gotham-based Plum Pictures is producing, with Peace Arch co-financing and handling worldwide distribution. Plum's Celine Rattray, Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Galt Niederhoffer are producing in association with Hart-Lunsford Pictures. Peace Arch is exec producer along with Irving Schwartz, Randy Simon and Bill Benenson. Liu next will be seen in "3 Needles," "The Cleaner" and "Rise." Murphy next stars in "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" and "Sunshine." Pic marks Soter's directorial debut. Liu, Murphy booked as lead "Detectives"
By Borys Kit Lucy Liu and Cillian Murphy are set to star in the romantic comedy "Watching the Detectives." Paul Soter, a member of Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe behind "Super Troopers" and the upcoming "Beerfest," wrote the script and is making his directorial debut on the movie.
"Detectives" centers on a film noir buff (Murphy) whose world is turned upside down when a beautiful, unpredictable femme fatale (Liu) provides far more adventure than he ever experienced -- and possibly more than he can handle. The project is a production of Toronto-based Peace Arch Entertainment and New York-based Plum Pictures. Peace Arch is co-financing and serving as worldwide distributor. Shooting is due to start this week in New York. Peace Arch is in postproduction on "Chapter 27," a drama about John Lennon's murderer, Mark David Chapman; the film stars Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto. Plum is in postproduction on romantic comedy "Dedication," starring Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore, and on "Grace Is Gone," a drama toplined by John Cusack. Liu is best known for her starring turn in the "Charlie's Angels" movies as well as "Kill Bill-Vol. 1." She most recently starred in "Lucky Number Slevin" and next appears in action comedy "The Cleaner" and supernatural thriller "Rise." Murphy made his name in Danny Boyle's zombie movie "28 Days Later" and has appeared in "Batman Begins" and "Red Eye." He received a Golden Globe nomination for his work in Neil Jordan's "Breakfast on Pluto."

Liu, Murphy star in Detectives for Plum, Peace Arch
By Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles Lucy Liu and Cillian Murphy will star in Peace Arch Entertainment and Plum Picture's romantic comedy Watching The Detectives, which is set to begin shooting in New York this week.
New York-based Plum is producing, with Peace Arch serving as co-financier and worldwide distributor.
Paul Soter wrote and makes his feature directorial debut on the story of a film noir buff whose world is thrown into chaos when he encounters a femme fatale with trouble on her mind.
Plum's Celine Rattray, Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Galt Niederhoffer will produce along with Kentucky-based Hart-Lunsford Pictures. This is Plum's first picture under its production fund deal with Hart-Lunsford. Peace Arch will serve as executive producers along with Irving Schwartz, Randy Simon and Bill Benenson. Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill star Liu will next be seen in drama Three Needles, comedy caper The Cleaner, and the supernatural action picture Rise. Murphy starred in this year's Palme d'Or winning drama The Wind That Shakes The Barley, as well as Breakfast On Pluto, Red Eye, and Batman Begins. Upcoming credits include sci-fi thriller
